Rotary Club of Wednesfield.

  • Formed in 1964 by Wolverhampton Rotary Club.
  • Objects: To establish fellowship amongst business and professional people with the aim of providing service to society at home and overseas, and to foster international understanding.
  • Membership approximately 25.
  • Meets weekly on Wednesday evenings.
  • Members aim to attend at least 50% of the meetings.
  • A programme of social events for members and their families includes Annual Spring Ball jointly with Darlaston, Willenhall and Bloxwich Phoenix clubs.
  • Annual charitable giving £10,000+.
  • Major Fundraising events: “Santa’s Sleigh” which tours Wednesfield for a week prior to Xmas each year.   “Trolley Dash” raffle at Sainsbury’s Wednesfield Store in May of each year.
  • Principal achievements:

Founder of “Meals on Wheels” Service in Wednesfield.

A group of members founded “Wednesfield Housing Association” which then built “Rotary Court” in Chapel Ash, Wolverhampton, a development of 49 one and two

 person units of Sheltered Housing for the elderly.

Between 1994 and 1998 made significant improvements to Matjane School in a remote area of Swaziland providing a clean water supply and then new desks and chairs for the classrooms.

Supported a Pre-school Special Needs Unit at Wood End with a revolutionary (at the time) new Sensory Room and equipment, a new exterior Climbing Frame and Sensory Playground Furniture.

Frequent donor to various departments at New Cross Hospital.

Frequent donor to international disaster causes.

Supporter of many other local community causes.
